From humble begging’s, Johannesburg has quickly established itself as the economic heartland of South Africa.
Being one of the most cosmopolitan cities on the African continent, GTconsult was always going to end up with an office in Johannesburg. The main reason we left this so late was that GTconsult was worried about service delivery.
The Johannesburg market is very different from the laid back nature of the Cape Town and Durban market.
We where always sceptical of the fast pace of Jozi putting our team under pressure they had never felt before. Both Craig Tarr and Bradley Geldenhuys grew up in Johannesburg, so they knew the lay of the land. After identifying Office 365 and SharePoint as key products that would drive the growth of the new market, GTconsult opened the Johannesburg office shortly after opening the Durban office in 2013.
Business growth is heavily dependent on introducing appropriate products into a market that has a high demand; however, the SharePoint and Office 365 market in Johannesburg is a saturated one.
In line with this, GTconsult found that SharePoint and Office 365 solution delivery in the Johannesburg office was generally very poor. Clients where paying excessive upfront costs to projects that never delivered, and thus starting coining SharePoint Nightmare Deployments
GTconsult offered the SharePoint A Team subscription model to clients in Johannesburg just as they did in Cape Town and Durban. This meant that clients would pay a monthly fee for services. This way, GTconsult would always have to deliver value to the client and therefore this option would be more appealing and less risky.
GTconsult has never looked back, and today, the Johannesburg office has the most clients and is responsible for 50% of GTconsults annual revenue. GTconsult has a number of plans to double the team in Johannesburg to service the Office 365 and SharePoint market in 2017. Watch this space!
